Erase airbag crash data instead of replacing the unit

After a collision the airbag control unit stores crash data. Why erasing often is enough — and when a replacement is still required.

What happens in a crash?

Airbag control units store event data and may lock modules. Dealers often recommend a full replacement — at a high cost.

In many cases a professional crash-data erase and test is enough, provided the unit and sensors are undamaged.

When erasing makes sense

No mechanical damage to the unit, the vehicle will stay in use, and airbags/seatbelts were repaired per manufacturer rules. We check feasibility via the part number.

After the job the system must be released correctly in the vehicle — brand-dependent via diagnostics or automatically.

Safety note

Safety systems must only be repaired properly. Damaged parts (airbags, pretensioners, sensors) must be replaced as required. We advise transparently on what is technically and safety-wise possible.
